Crash Leads To Ruptured Water Main: Police

The driver hit a fire hydrant, police say.

SOUTHOLD, NY — A car accident on Route 48 in Southold Tuesday led to a ruptured water main, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, the crash happened at 10:42 p.m. when the driver in the single car accident left the roadway and struck a fire hydrant.

The ruptured water main flooded surrounding roads and property; the Suffolk County Water Authority responded to repair the water main, police said.

The driver was transported to Eastern Long Island Hospital by the Southold Fire Department rescue squad for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, police said.
