Death Of Man Whose Body Washed Up On Beach Ruled 'Non-Criminal': Police

The man has been identified but his name will not be released, police say.

LAUREL, NY —The death of a man whose body was found washed up on a Laurel beach has been ruled "non-criminal" in nature, police said — but his identity, although determined, was not released.

According to Suffolk County Police, "We have identified the body in Laurel. It is non-criminal. We are not releasing the name."

Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives investigated the death at the request of Southold Police Department.

The body of an unidentified male washed up on the Peconic Bay beach, in front of a private residence on Sept. 3, police said.

According to Southold Town Police Chief Martin Flatley, an investigation was initiated by Southold detectives and the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office into the death, police said.

Suffolk County Police said there are a number of reasons, not including criminal cases, why a case would be transferred to the homicide squad.
