Documentary About Plum Island Shown Tuesday in Peconic

The documentary features actor Sam Waterston.

PECONIC, NY — Efforts to highlight the fight to save Plum Island continue in Southold this week.

Save the Sound will host a Plum Island presentation and a screening of a 10-minute documentary film "Conservation of a Precious Island," featuring Academy Award nominee Sam Waterston, on Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Southold Town Recreation Center, located at 970 Peconic Lane in Peconic.

Louise Harrison, New York outreach coordinator for Save the Sound's Plum Island campaign, will guide guests on a virtual tour of the island; the event will also feature latest news from a panel of local experts.

At the reception, guests will learn how to become part of the fight to protect Plum Island from commercial development, organizers said.
