Drunk Driver Arrested At Crash Scene: Police

He collided with another vehicle and was airlifted, police say.

MATTITUCK, NY — A drunk driver was arrested at the scene of a Mattituck crash Sunday, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, the crash took place at 11:47 a.m. at the intersection of County Road 48 and Wickham Avenue.

Frederick W. Kollhop, 52, of Westhampton Beach, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, police said.

Kollhop was traveling east on County Route 48 and attempted to turn left onto Wickham Avenue, running through a steady red arrow light for a left turn and colliding with a vehicle that was traveling west on County Road 48, police said.

Kollhopp was found to be intoxicated and arrested at the scene; he was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital via Suffolk County aviation for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, police said.
