Firefighters Extinguish Structure Fire In Cutchogue
One firefighter sustained a hand injury, Cutchogue Fire Department Chief Tom Shalvey says.
CUTCHOGUE, NY — A fire broke out in a Cutchogue home Wednesday, officials said.
According to Cutchogue Fire Department Chief Tom Shalvey, the department was activated at 12:37 p.m. for a structure fire in an unoccupied home on Bridge Lane in Cutchogue.
Firefighters found a small fire on an outside deck; upon further investigation, fire was discovered in the kitchen and dining room areas, as well, Shalvey said.

Firefighters started an interior attack and quickly extinguished the flames, he said.
Fire damage was confined to the kitchen and dining room area, Shalvey said. The remainder of the home suffered extensive smoke and heat damage.

One Cutchogue firefighter sustained a hand injury and was transported to the hospital by Cutchogue ambulance where he was treated and released, Shalvey said.
The Mattituck Fire Department sent one engine to the scene and Southold Fire Department responded with a rapid intervention team, Shalvey said. Greenport firefighters stood by at Cutchogue Fire headquarters with an engine crew and an ambulance, Shalvey said.
The Suffolk County Police Department's arson squad is investigating the cause of the fire, Shalvey said.
