Greenport/Southold Schools To Share School Business Official

The districts have embarked upon a one year pilot program to share the post, according to Superintendent David Gamberg.

NORTH FORK, NY - A one-year pilot program is moving forward between the Greenport and Southold school districts to share one school business official, David Gamberg, who is superintendent of both schools, said Thursday.

With the retirement of Diana Duell, the Greenport School business official, at the end of the school year, Chuck Scheid, Southold Assistant Superintendent for Business, will oversee the business office functions in both districts as a cost savings measure, Gamberg said in a release.

Duell’s replacement will be someone who will report directly to Mr. Scheid, he added.

Should the pilot program prove to be effective and efficient, future savings could be realized, Gamberg said.

Southold and Greenport school districts will now have four separate administrative functions that are shared, including superintendent of schools, director of educational technology, plants and facilities administrator, and the business official.

"These two school districts share more administrative functions than any two neighboring districts on Long Island, and perhaps even throughout New York State,” Gamberg said.

Details of the arrangement are still being worked out between the two school districts, he said.
