Jaws of Life Used to Remove Woman From Car After Cutchogue Crash
The woman was hospitalized after being extricated from the car.
Local firefighters used the jaws of life to remove a woman trapped in her car after a crash on Route 48 in Cutchogue on Saturday evening, according to the Cutchogue Fire Department
Firefighters from the Cutchogue Fire Department were dispatched to County Route 48 and Cox Lane on a report of a car accident at about 5:30 p.m.
They found a two car collision resulting in the female driver of a 4-door sedan becoming trapped.

Firefighters and EMT’s arrived and went to work treating the injured parties, while a crew used the jaws of life to extricate the woman by removing the drivers door from the car, according to the fire department.
Once freed from the car, the woman was transported by ambulance to Eastern Long Island hospital in Greenport for treatment of minor injuries, according to the fire department.

The male driver of the second vehicle, a pickup truck, was uninjured and was evaluated by EMT’s at the scene.
A portion of Route 48 was closed for while crews operated at the scene and police units diverted traffic to other area roads during this time.
Firefighters stood by until the two vehicles were towed from the scene and road was safe to reopen to normal traffic.
The cause of the crash is currently being investigated by the Southold Town Police Department.
All units cleared the scene just after 6:30 p.m.
