Local Man Builds Access Ramp For Physically Challenged Woman
Cutchogue's Alex Nyilas, a PSEG employee, worked with a team to build the ramp for a physically challenged woman who needed a helping hand.

CUTCHOGUE, NY — A local man put his heart into giving back recently, helping to build an access ramp for a physically challenged woman.
Alex Nyilas of Cutchogue, along with a group of PSEG Long Island colleagues, volunteered to build the ramp for a Bay Shore woman through the "Rebuilding Together Long Island" program.
The volunteers left the office for the day to construct the handicapped-accessible ramp for Mrs. “H,” who is legally blind, a new wheelchair user — and desperately needed a ramp to get in and out of her home.

The PSEG Long Island volunteers spent the day providing Mrs. “H” with the access she needed by constructing a ramp to the front of her home, a release said.
“Throughout the year, our employees are involved in a variety of community service projects that vary from builds to walks to fundraisers,” said Daniel Eichhorn, president and COO, PSEG Long Island. “I’m so proud when a local group calls on us, and our employees raise their hands to help their neighbors in need.”

“Everyone was hard at work either building the wheelchair ramp or installing grab bars,” said Stella Hendrickson, RTLI director, of the day’s events. “We are so appreciative of the help we received and are very thankful for our relationship with PSEG Long Island. We learned about the many worthwhile projects they participate in throughout the year, and we are grateful to be included in that group.”
RTLI is engaged in repairs such as carpentry, electrical, plumbing and home modifications including wheelchair ramps for the physically challenged; RTLI is one of the leading organizations in Nassau and Suffolk counties providing home repairs at no cost to its income-qualified clients, PSEG said.
PSEG Long Island employees are involved with local charity events and organizations through the company’s Community Partnership Program; in 2017, PSEG Long Island participated in 1,100 events supporting more than 400 organizations, the release said.
