Man Killed in Head-On Crash Was Member of Paralympic Soccer, Track Teams
His beloved dog, who also died in the crash, was adopted after its first owner passed away. "That's the kind of guy he was," a friend said.

SOUTHOLD, NY — Funeral services begin Tuesday for the Massapequa man killed in a horrific head-on crash on Main Bayview Road in Southold Saturday.
Visitation for Colin J. Ryan, 31, will be held Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Massapequa Funeral Home, South Chapel on 4980 Merrick Road in Massapequa Park.
A service will be held Wednesday, September 7 starting at 10 a.m. at the St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church on 2 Bayview Avenue in Massapequa.

Colin graduated from Massapequa High School in 2004 and from Mitchell College in Connecticut in 2008.
He was a proud member of the Paralympic soccer and track teams in the early 2000s, his obituary said.
He is survived by his parents, Mary and Edward and his brother Thomas.

In addition, Colin is survived by many aunts and uncles and 18 cousins.
"Colin was a special guy, who always had a good attitude toward life," said longtime family friend Capt. Jerry Collins. He added that despite being born with some disabilities, he was always positive and giving.
"He adopted the dog that died with him after the passing of the dog's owner, the mother-in-law of another lifelong friend. That's the kind of guy he was," he said.
"He made a positive influence in everything he did," his obituary read.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Long Island Toy Lending Center.
Cremation will be private.
