Police Identify Man Killed in Head On Crash On Main Bayview in Southold
BREAKING: The woman airlifted was a local Southold resident, police said; a dog also died in the crash.

SOUTHOLD, NY — Police have identified the man killed in Saturday's high speed, head on crash on Main Bayview Road in Southold as Colin J. Ryan, 31, of Massapequa.
The man's dog died in the crash, too, Southold Town Police Chief Martin Flatley said.
Antigone Amengual, 66, of Southold, was badly injured in the crash and was extricated from her vehicle with heavy rescue equipment and airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said.

Amengual was extricated from her vehicle and treated at the scene by Southold Fire Department before being airlifted Stony Brook University Hospital by Suffolk County Aviation, police said.
The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Southold Police detective division.
According to Flatley, who was at the scene, an SUV and a smaller, sedan type vehicle slammed into one another head-on.
Flatley said from the extent of the damage, it did not appear that brakes had been applied. The car was so badly damaged that it took more than 30 minutes to extricate the woman with heavy rescue equipment, police said.
Southold and Cutchogue Fire Departments responded to the scene.
Flatley said it was not immediately clear if speed or any other factors contributed to the crash but said the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office headed to the scene to perform a complete investigation.
Main Bayview Road remained closed in both directions for several hours while the investigation continued.
One woman, who lives in the house feet from the crash scene, said she was just pulling out of her driveway when she saw, through the trees, the two cars collide, sending one up into the air, she said.
Another resident, who also lives on Main Bayview Road, clutched rosaries in her hand. She said she and her mother heard the loud crash. She said she wished the road had signage urging motorists to slow down.
