Man Rescued From Sinking Vessel In Long Island Sound: Cops

He had been in the Sound for about a half hour before he was rescued, police say.

NORTH FORK, NY — A man was located from a sinking vessel in the Long Island Sound Thursday morning, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, the incident took place at 10:06 am. one mile northeast of Little Gull Island.

While on patrol in Orient Harbor, Southold Town Police bay constables were contacted via VHF radio by the fishing vessel Peconic Star about an overturned and sinking vessel with one person in the water, police said.

Bay constables responded and met the Peconic Star, finding Conroy Lee of Nesconset, who had been rescued, onboard, police said.

Lee was transferred to the Southold Police boat and he was brought to Orient By the Sea Marina, where the Orient Fire Dept. examined and and released him, police said.

Lee had been in the water for 30 minutes and was wearing a life jacket, police said.
