UPDATE: Frank McBride, Town Worker, Identified As Mattituck Man Killed After LIRR Train Strikes Pickup
The accident occurred Tuesday afternoon.

MATTITUCK, NY - Update: 6:48 p.m.: The man killed Tuesday when his truck was struck by a Long Island Rail Road train has been identified as Frank McBride, Patch has confirmed.
McBride, who has also been a beloved member of the Cutchogue Fire Department, was a familiar face to many, always ready to greet residents with a smile at the town's transfer station where he worked.

Friends have said that McBride, who lived in Mattituck on Elijah's Lane not far from the accident, may have been on his lunch break when the tragedy occurred.
The news broke hearts on the North Fork, where McBride was so very loved and where his smile will be forever missed, friends said.

Update: 3:06: The driver of a pickup struck by a Long Island Rail Road train Tuesday has died, according to Southold Town Police Chief Martin Flatley.
No further information about the man's identity was immediately available, he said.
3:04 p.m.: According to Sal Arena, spokesperson for the MTA, the train heading west involved in Tuesday's accident was carrying four passengers, none of whom were injured. Service was suspended and buses were used to transport passengers between Greenport and Ronkonkoma and back.
The train's gates were operational, Arena said.
According to Arena, the injured driver was taken from the scene to Peconic Bay for treatment.
Original story: A man was seriously injured Tuesday when a Long Island Rail Road train collided with his pickup truck in Mattituck Tuesday afternoon.
According to Southold Town Police Chief Martin Flatley, the truck driver went through the LIRR gates at the Elijahs Lane crossing at about 1:15 p.m.
A westbound train clipped the blue pickup truck and sent it into a wooded area just the off the tracks.
Suffolk County Police aviation was on the scene, but first responders were attempting to determine if the driver was well enough to fly.
