Mattituck-Cutchogue School District Budget, BOE Election Results Are In
Residents turned out Tuesday for the school budget vote.

MATTITUCK-CUTCHOGUE - Mattituck and Cutchogue residents approved a $40,333,932016-17 school budget on Tuesday.
The budget passed 598 to 185.
The total budget decrease is -1.44 percent while the tax rate would increase 0.13 percent over the current year’s rate.

"I'm very happy with the voter turnout and the interest in serving on our board of education," Superintendent Dr. Anne Smith said after the vote. "We look forward to a productive year."
And, results of a heated race, with seven candidates vying for three board of education seats, resulted in Brian Mealy receiving 310 votes — he was sworn in immediately — Barbara Talbot receiving 365, and MaryLynn Hoeg receiving 468. Talbot and Hoeg will be sworn in July 1.

The two highest vote-getters will each serve three-year terms, while the third highest vote-getter will be elected to serve a one-year term, in the seat of Gerry Diffley, who did not complete his term.
