Mattituck Woman Scammed Out Of $11K: Police

MATTITUCK, NY — A Mattituck woman, 70, lost more than $11,000 when she fell victim to a scam recently, police said.

The woman said she mistakenly wired the money, $11,070, earlier in January to a third party she believed was affiliated with the Federal Banking Commission, Southold Town police said.

She is currently at a financial loss and has notified her bank, police said. All accounts associated with the fraudulent activity have been closed, police said.
