GREENPORT, NY — Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Peconic Landing has announced the return of the popular Veterans Day Wedding Giveback, hosted at Brecknock Hall.

The not-for-profit organization is currently seeking applicants for the annual contest, which provides a free wedding each year to current or former military personnel in recognition of their service, thanks to the commitment of local businesses and area volunteers.

The event began in 2011 as an opportunity to thank Long Island’s military personnel and recognize them for their service to our country. Sponsored by Peconic Landing, the giveaway is made possible through contributions from local businesses and organizations who donate the time, talents, and services to create an all-expenses-paid wedding for one couple.

The contest was canceled due to the pandemic. The most recent winning couple was U.S. Air Force Reservist Kyle Stephen Holmes of Sunrise, Florida and U.S. Air Force Captain Kaitlin Daddona of Southold, who won in 2019.

The excited couple was notified during a surprise reveal and celebrated their dream wedding at Brecknock Hall on November 10, 2019.

“The day couldn’t have gone more smoothly,” Daddona said. “Every person who had a part in putting our wedding together, from the giveback committee to the vendors, put their hearts and souls into making our day perfect, and we couldn’t be more thankful. Your commitment to our nation’s servicemen and women makes us proud to serve our country.”

This year’s winners will again be provided with a free wedding, accommodating up to 82 guests and taking place on Sunday, November 13, in celebration of Veterans Day.

The contest is open to both current and veteran service members; at least one partner must have served or be serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. Applicants can click here to enter by March 15.

The winning couple will be chosen by a panel of Peconic Landing members with military ties, who judge the contest based on the number of years served, special military honors, and each couple’s personal love story.

Couples must be available for a live or virtual interview to be considered for the giveback.

“Our members and team members are so excited to bring back this very special event after a two-year hiatus,” said Robert J. Syron, president and CEO of Peconic Landing. “Working together with our neighboring businesses on the East End to provide a dream wedding is the least we can do to show our support to those serving our country."

About $60,000 worth of services and in-kind donations are contributed each year. Those wishing to contribute can contact Valerie Tirelli-Hallock, Brecknock Hall sales and events coordinator, at info@brecknockhall.com.
