Missing Dog, Gomez, Home Safe

Gomez was newly adopted and home less than a week when he slipped out the back door. But his story has a happy ending.

SOUTHOLD, NY — It's the happiest of endings for Gomez, a newly adopted and very shy shelter dog who went missing after less than a week in his new Southold digs: Gomez returned home Tuesday and is safe with his new owner.

"It’s his owner who was finally able to coax him into the trap and get him in the house," said Gabrielle Stroup of the North Fork Animal Welfare League, where Gomez lived until his adoption. "I am so relieved he is safe at home. We have been searching and trying different things to get him, and in this rainy weather, I was feeling so badly. Just so happy he is safe," Stroup said.

Gomez went missing Sunday, slipping out the back door near Hortons Lane in Southold, Stroup said.
