New Ferry Added to Cross Sound Ferry Fleet

The Jennifer C. made its maiden voyage Friday, Cross Sound Ferry officials said.

ORIENT POINT, NY — A new Cross Sound Ferry made its maiden voyage on Friday.

Cross Sound Ferry announced Friday that it's added a new ferry to its fleet. The Jennifer C. has a capacity of 50 autos and 300 passengers and will serve on the company’s route between New London, CT and Orient Point, NY.

The Jennifer C. marks the eighth vessel currently operating on the company’s New London to Orient Point route; with the addition, Cross Sound’s service will offer up to 62 departures and arrivals daily and can save a traveler up to 200 miles of driving along the "heavily congested" I-95 corridor in Connecticut, as well as the Long Island Expressway, release from CSF said.

The Jennifer C. is the former M/V Pamlico, acquired by Cross Sound late in 2015. The vessel has undergone extensive improvements at Thames Shipyard & Repair Co. since early 2016.

Changes include a new passenger cabin that was added, along with a complete renovation to the existing cabin. Comfortable seating accommodations were added in a climate controlled environment along with a full service Cross Sound Deli and lounge offering signature sandwiches, salads and flatbreads, CSF said.

The Jennifer C. is named for Jennifer C. Wronowski, the wife of Cross Sound Ferry vice president and co-owner Adam Wronowski, the CSF said.

“We are proud to be able to add the Jennifer C. to the fleet and equally as proud of the work we have done to provide the accommodations our customers have come to expect from Cross Sound Ferry. Passengers will find comfortable, climate-controlled cabins, a lounge, deli and ample work space and hookups for laptops and other devices,” said Adam Wronowski.

In order to acquire the vessel, Cross Sound worked with the U.S. Maritime Association in establishing a capital construction fund.

The program,CSF said, assists owners and operators of vessels in the United States in accumulating the capital necessary for the modernization and expansion of the U.S. merchant marine. The vessel was purchased and refurbished solely with private funds provided by Cross Sound Ferry.

Cross Sound Ferry celebrated 40 years of service to Long Island’s North Fork and southern New England in 2015.
