Do you have a family? If so, please tell us about them.

I am married to my wife, Renee, and we have two sons, Landon (16) and Reid (13).

Does anyone in your family work in politics or government?

None.

Have you ever held a public office, whether appointive or elective?

I have been a Southold Town Trustee since 2016.

Now we'd like to ask a few questions about your reasons for running and your general views on politics and government. First, why are you seeking this office?

Our town faces many environmental challenges that come with living on the water, but I believe that we can work together to strike a balance between property rights and use, and the protection of our vital bays, creeks, and wetlands. I want to ensure that future generations get to experience the same healthy, local marine environment that those of us who grew up in Southold were so blessed to enjoy.

Please complete this statement: The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ___, and this is what I intend to do about it.

The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is water quality, and I intend to continue to work together with the rest of the trustees to put safeguards in place to protect our waters. We will expand the use of Innovative / Alternative Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems (I/A OWTS) within trustee jurisdiction to reduce the amount of nitrogen entering our water. We will continue to require non-turf and non-disturbance buffers on waterfront parcels to act as a natural filter and reduce the amount of chemicals, pesticides, and nitrogen entering our surface waters. We will continue to promote the use of living shorelines, where the natural vegetation improves water quality and provides habitat for shellfish that help to filter the water.

What needs to be done to address water quality issues on LI?

We need to reduce the amount of nitrogen entering our water through the expansion of innovative / alternative onsite wastewater treatment systems, reducing the use of pesticides and fertilizers near the water, increasing vegetation and natural buffers along the shoreline of our bays and creeks, and protecting our wetlands which act as a natural filter and provide habitat for many beneficial marine organisms, such as shellfish, that filter our water.

What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?

Nick has hair! I have had the honor and privilege of serving with Nick Krupski on the trustee board for the last eight years. I believe that we are both committed to working together in a bipartisan effort, striking a balance between use and protection of our vital bays, creeks, and wetlands for future generations.

What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?

Just continuing to work together with knowledge, experience, and respect to do my best for Southold Town.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

I've been fortunate to serve as the president of the trustees for the last four years. The last two years that I was elected president, there were four Democrats on the board and I was the only Republican. I am very proud of the fact that my colleagues on the trustees believed in me, and the job that I was doing, enough to support me as president regardless of political party. I believe that is not only a testament to myself, but to the other members of the board as well, and a great example of what good local government is all about. We put aside our differences and focus on our similarities. We work together to do the right thing and what is in the best interests of the town.

What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?

If you do something you love, you'll never work a day in your life.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

I am proud of my commitment to public service and my proven track record. I have had the honor and privilege to serve as a trustee for the last eight years, and with your support, I hope to continue that service.
