Police: Couple Stranded On Long Island Sound Rescued By Coast Guard

The Coast Guard found the couple at 3:36 a.m. a mile north of Herod Point.

A Rockville Centre couple were rescued after they became stranded while boating on the Long Island Sound on Sunday, Sept. 28.

The Riverhead Police Department received a report at 10:22 p.m. Sunday of boaters that had failed to return after leaving the area of Creek Road in Wading River earlier that day.

The Riverhead Police Department Dive Team along with the Suffolk County Police Marine and Aviation Units, Wading River and Rocky Point Fire Departments, and the U.S. Coast Guard conducted a search of the Long Island Sound for the missing vessel.

At 3:36 a.m., Gary P. McMullan, 64, and his wife, Kathryn M. McMullan, 58, were found a mile north of Herod Point in Wading River by the U.S. Coast Guard.

They did not required any medical attention and were reunited with family members, according to police.
