After speaking to him, officers found he smelled strongly of alcohol, was unsteady on his feet, his eyes were bloodshot and glassy, and his speech was slurred, according to police.

Vazquez told officers he was heading home to Greenport from Patchogue and that he and his vehicle were involved in an accident, police said.

He also said that he did not know where his car was, according to police.

The car was located about 1000 feet away, involved in a second accident with a fire hydrant, police said.

Vazquez failed two standard field sobriety tests and could not provide the third, police said.

He was taken into custody and transported to headquarters to be processed.

His car was towed and he was held awaiting arraignment.
