Police: Man Banned From Drinking Alcohol Found Drunk at Greenport Bar

The man had an order of protection against him that banned him from drinking alcohol due to a previous arrest, police say.

A Centereach man with an order of protection against him that banned him from drinking alcohol was found drunk at a Greenport bar on Monday night, according to Southold Town Police.

Officers responded for a call of a person causing a disturbance inside the Whiskey Wind Tavern at about 9 p.m.

Police found that Adam Groom, 31, was causing problems with another patron inside the bar and a warrant check revealed that he had an order of protection against him that banned him from consuming or possessing alcohol, police said.

Groom was highly intoxicated at the time and also had in his bag five cans of beer and three bottles of vodka, police said.

He was arrested for second degree criminal contempt, transported to headquarters and lodged to await arraignment in the morning, according to police.

In 2009, Groom was arrested on multiple charges after he was caught recklessly pushing a stroller with his 3-month-old daughter while drunk along Route 25 in Centereach and tried to buy marijuana, according to a report in Newsday.

He was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, resisting arrest, and harassment, according to the report.
