Police: Teen Chased Greenport Man Who Stole Items From Flanders Home

The incident occurred last Monday.

A Greenport man was arrested for burglarizing a Flanders home last Monday, Southampton Town Police announced Tuesday.

On Nov. 5, Wade Hackett, 43, of Greenport, entered a residence on Glider Avenue in Flanders and was confronted by a 16-year-old resident when he returned home, according to police.

The victim chased Hackett out of the residence through a wooded area that adjoined the property when Hackett refused to drop his proceeds of electronics and jewelry, police said.

The young man then followed Hackett to his car parked on the roadway and got a description as he drove away, police said.

The victim relayed the information to police and an alert patrol officer saw the car eight miles from the scene and stopped Hackett, according to police.

Hackett was identified by the victim and was subsequently arrested and transported to headquarters for processing, according to police.

Police found that he entered both the main residence and an apartment and removed items from both locations, police said.

He was charged with two counts of second degree burglary, police said.
