The mobile Town Hall will take place at Peconic Landing on May 23.

GREENPORT, NY — The Southold town board is hitting the road, with a mobile town board meeting scheduled for Peconic Landing in Greenport on Tuesday, May 23.

The mobile meeting is organized as "an effort to further engage civic participation," a release from the town board said.

The work session is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., followed by the regular town board meeting at 4:30 p.m.; both will be held in the auditorium.

Southold Town Supervisor Scott Russell said logistics shaped the decision to host mobile Town Hall events.

"It is our hope that by bringing the meetings out into the communities, we will make it easier for the public to attend. We have had them in the past with mixed results regarding attendance. There are, however, usually a few new faces at the meetings so it’s an effort we believe is worth it," he said.
