Sports Equipment Swap Planned For Saturday

Here's a chance to find some gently used sports equipment for the kids, for free. Donate some of your own and swap with friends.

PECONIC, NY — If you have piles of barely used, pricey sports equipment and want to swap for what kids need this season, head on down to a Sports Equipment Exchange hosted by the Southold Town Youth Bureau on Saturday.

The swap will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Southold Recreation Center on Peconic Lane in Peconic, where parents can find equipment without breaking the bank.

Southold Town is accepting gently used equipment, including cleats, shoes, bats, protective gear and skates, to donate to those in need.

After last year's kick-off event, Southold Town Youth Bureau Director Lynn Nyilas said, "The goal of the exchange was to provide an opportunity for our community to bring their outgrown sports equipment and see that someone else could put it good use. Kids go through equipment so quickly — they can outgrow cleats in one season."

To donate, just drop off the equipment at the recreation center Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. or by special arrangement.
