Sweet Dog, Sophie, Needs Urgent Medical Help
Sophie, who was surrendered after a divorce, has a growth that needs removal quickly, shelter advocates say.

NORTH FORK, NY — Sophie, a sweet dog who was surrendered to a North Fork shelter after her owners' divorce in January, is facing a medical crisis and needs help.
Veterinarians found a growth that started off very small and has increased in size rapidly, Gabrielle Stroup, director of operations at The League animal shelters in Peconic and Aquebogue, said. "The vets have determined it has to be surgically removed ASAP and are concerned it could be cancerous."
Surgery and necessary testing are estimated to cost around $1,600, she said.
