Teen Rescued From Water Off Nassau Point

CUTCHOGUE, NY — A 16-year old boy was saved after he got pulled into the water by the incoming tide at Nassau Point on Monday, police said.

According to Southold Town Police, the incident took place at 1:35 p.m. on Nassau Point Road in Cutchogue. The teen was on the sandbar at the end of Nassau Point when the tide began to come in; he got pulled into the water and was unable to swim back to the beach, police said.

Southold police officers, bay constables, the Cutchogue Fire Department and a Shelter Island bay constable were dispatched to the scene, police said.

The Shelter Island bay constable arrived on scene first, located the teen in the water and brought him onto his boat, police said. The boy was conscious and alert but exhibited signs of exhaustion; he was then transferred over to the Cutchogue Fire Department's rescue boat and brought to the New Suffolk boat ramp, where he was transported via ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center to be evaluated for precautionary reasons, police said.
