Town Offers Public Awareness Seminar On Emergency Management
The event takes place on June 21 in Peconic.

SOUTHOLD, NY — With an eye toward being prepared in the event of a hurricane or other disaster, Southold Town's Office of Emergency Management is hosting a public awareness seminar.
The event will be held on Wednesday, June 21, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Peconic Community Center on Peconic Lane.
The goal of the seminar is to raise public awareness and share information involving local emergencies, as well as to explain the role of Southold's OEM.

"Southold’s OEM is responsible for preparing the town and the public to manage activities before, during, and after the impact of a natural or manmade disaster," a release from the town said. "The goal is to minimize the impact of incidents or disasters which potentially threaten the safety and welfare of our citizens. This requires a partnership amongst all levels of government, the private sector, volunteer and religious organizations, and the general public."
Last year's meeting, shown in the photo of above, was a tabletop drill held with local officials, police, EMTs, and fire chiefs; this year's is a public information seminar open to all; the event will alternate from year to year, said Denis Noncarrow, Southold Town government liaison officer.
