Magnetic earrings on held on each ear with two magnets that are attracted to each other. The field goes though the earlobe and holds the earring on the ear without the need for piercing.

When I first discovered the idea around 1980, I was so excited, because it was perfect for my show customers. I had been specializing in a niche market making ear wraps that wrap around the back of the ear and are also non-pierced.

I use ceramic magnets whenever possible because they are the mildest and most comfortable along with being pretty much hypoallergenic after I have coated them with enamel paint. I only use neodymium magnets when the earring is smaller than 3/8 inch since the smallest ceramic magnets that I use are ¼ inch. Then I will change to a 5 mm neodymium magnet or smaller as is needed.
When I attended art & craft shows across the country, I found that magnetic earrings solved more than just the piercing issue; they were great for covering up damaged lobes, and many could be made to be almost completely hypoallergenic by using fabric and ceramic magnets.
