Woman, 83, Dies In North Fork Crash: Police
She veered into the opposite lane and off the roadway then hit a utility pole, police say.
GREENPORT, NY — A Ronkonkoma woman, 83, died after a Greenport crash Friday morning, police said.
According to Southold Town Police, the crash took place at 8:18 am. on North Road in Greenport West when Helga Bauer, who was driving a 2011 Toyota Camry east on County Road 48, crossed over into westbound traffic and left the roadway. Her vehicle then traveled on the shoulder of the roadway and struck a utility pole before coming to rest in the westbound traffic lane, police said.
Bauer was transported to Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport where she was pronounced dead, police said.
