Young People Take Swim In Flooded Mattituck Parking Lot: Video

Yes, there was that much rain. Watch what some called "The Parking Lot Olympics."

MATTITUCK, NY — Bringing new meaning to the expression, "When life hands you lemons," some intrepid water enthusiasts decided to see the glass as half full Friday when a Mattituck parking lot was submerged after a deluge of rain.

As a crowd cheered at the Mattituck shopping plaza on Main Road, some people garbed in bathing suits took a swim in the rushing water. "The parking lot Olympics," someone called out.

Not every North Fork situation was filled with levity, however: In a heroic save, one man was rescued from his submerged vehicle, which was swept into a recharge basic by the rushing water.
