7 Suffolk Beaches Remain Closed To Swimmers Due To Bacteria Levels
Crab Meadow in Northport and Nathan Hale Beach Club in Huntington were added Monday; others reopened. Is your beach on the list?

NORTHPORT, NY — The Nathan Hale Beach Club in Huntington, along with Crab Meadow Beach in Northport, were part of a group of seven beaches closed to bathing on Monday after bacteria levels were found to be in excess of acceptable criteria.
The following beaches remain closed:
- Beech Road Beach in Rocky Point
- Sound Beach Property Owners’ Association Beach
- Knollwood Beach
- Huntington Beach Community Association Beach
- Valley Grove Beach in Eatons Neck
As of Monday morning, the county had closed 12 beaches, but half were reopened after 1:30 p.m.

The beaches included:
- Sayville Marina Park Beach
- Tanner Park Beach in Copiague
- Venetian Shores Beach in Lindenhurst
- Baycrest Association Beach
- Wincoma Beach in Huntington
- Fiddlers Green Association Beach in Lloyd Neck
Other beaches that were closed and reopened include Benjamin Beach, Ronkonkoma Beach, Terraces on the Sound Beach in Rocky Point; Fleets Cove Beach in Huntington; Steers Beach and Asharoken Beach in Northport; and Hobart Beach and Prices Bend Beach in Eatons Neck have all reopened.

Bathing in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat, according to Suffolk's Commissioner of Health, Dr. Gregson Pigott.
Beaches will reopen when further testing finds the bacteria have subsided to acceptable levels.
