2 Elwood Track Stars Named All-Long Island

Both girls who received the honors showed a "tremendous amount of talent and leadership," says their coach.

ELWOOD, NY — Sofia Condron and Kerri Giambruno, who are student-athletes at Elwood-John H. Glenn High School, were recently named to the All-Long Island team for the 2021 spring track season by the Nassau and Suffolk Track Coaches Association and USA Track & Field, according to a news release from the school district.

Condron was chosen for her performance in the 800-meter race, where she earned the title of overall Suffolk County champion. Giambruno was selected for her performance in the 100-meter hurdles, where she broke her own school record with a time of 14.74 and was named Suffolk County champion.

"Both Sofia and Kerry displayed a tremendous amount of talent and leadership throughout a very chaotic season," said their coach, Patrick Burke.

Dave Shanahan, Elwood’s director of athletics, physical education, health and nurses, called the accomplishment "amazing" for both girls.

"These young ladies are exceptional both in the classroom and on the track," he said.
