5 Suffolk Beaches Closed To Swimming Due To Bacteria
Swimming in waters with high levels of bacteria can cause harmful health effects.
SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — Five county beaches are closed to swimming, Suffolk health officials said Tuesday.
High levels of bacteria were found in the waters of Tanner Park Beach in Copiague, Venetian Shores Beach in Lindenhurst, Sayville Marina Park Beach, the Centerport Yacht Club Beach, and Knollwood Association Beach in Centerport.
Bathing in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat, according to Suffolk County Commissioner of Health Dr. Gregson Pigott.
