After Heartbreaking Goodbye, Bonded Brothers Seek New Home: Northport Kitties Of The Week
The bonded 2-year-old brothers returned to Northport Cat Rescue after their owner lost his home and could no longer care for them.

NORTHPORT, NY — Prince Gumball and Gemini, two bonded 2-year-old brothers, have been named Northport Cat Rescue Association’s Cats of the Week.
Their story, volunteers say, is one filled with both heartbreak and love.
In the days leading up to Thanksgiving, as colder weather began settling in, the rescue received a call that left volunteers shaken.

Prince Gumball and Gemini’s adopter was about to lose his home and was preparing to live out of his van for the foreseeable future. Facing overwhelming financial hardship, the man’s greatest concern was not for himself, but for the two cats he loved deeply.
“Without hesitation, we told him to bring them back,” said Lora Wild, volunteer at the rescue. “They would always have a safe place with us.”

When the day came to return the cats, volunteers say it was an emotional moment none of them will forget.
“Their adopter held them close, tears streaming down his face as he said goodbye to the boys he loved so deeply,” the rescue shared. “Prince Gumball and Gemini hugged him back in their own way, pressing against him and clinging to him as if they understood everything.”
“It was heartbreaking — and it was full of love.”
Despite the difficult circumstances, volunteers say the brothers have quickly captured the hearts of everyone who has met them.
Prince Gumball is described as the outgoing one of the pair — “the life of the party.” He is vocal, affectionate and eager for attention, happily rubbing against people and asking for pets, cuddles and conversation.
Gemini has a quieter personality at first and may appear shy when meeting new people. But once he is picked up, volunteers say “something magical happens.”
“He melts into you, wraps his paws around your neck in the sweetest hug, and nuzzles in close as if he never wants to let go,” the rescue said.

The brothers clearly share a deep bond and must be adopted together.
“They have already known what it means to be loved,” the rescue said. “Our greatest hope is that the next chapter of their lives will be filled with the same love and security they once had.”
Prince Gumball and Gemini are currently staying at Petco in Huntington, where they are hoping to meet a family willing to open their hearts and give them the stable, loving home they deserve.
Both cats are neutered, up to date on vaccinations, litter-box trained, microchipped, and have tested negative for FeLV and FIV.
