Another Summer Passes As Phantom And Lena Wait: Northport Kitties Of The Week
Phantom and Lena sleep together, play together and help each other feel safe — but the bonded siblings are still waiting for a home.

COMMACK, NY — As another summer arrives, Phantom and Lena are still waiting.
The bonded siblings, born April 20, 2025, are Northport Cat Rescue Association’s Kittens of the Week — and the rescue says they are still hoping someone will finally notice them.
“While other cats stretch out in sunny windows, nap on family couches, and spend their days surrounded by love, these bonded siblings spend their kittenhood hoping someone will notice them,” the rescue said.

Their journey has not been easy.
When Phantom was living in one of Northport Cat Rescue’s adoption habitats, volunteers noticed something was wrong. He seemed uncomfortable and withdrawn, the rescue said.

NCRA made the difficult decision to remove both Phantom and his sister Lena from adoption view and return them to foster care so volunteers could determine what was causing his discomfort.

There, the rescue discovered Phantom had multiple painful teeth that needed to be removed.
“Once the source of his pain was gone, everything changed,” NCRA said.
Today, Phantom is learning how to simply be a kitten again. He loves chasing toys, especially his favorite fuzzy worm toy, and leans into gentle back scratches, the rescue said. He also rolls over for belly rubs once he feels comfortable.
Phantom can be shy at first and will need a family willing to give him patience as his confidence continues to grow, but the rescue said those who know him believe he is “absolutely worth it.”
Through every step of his recovery, Lena never left his side.
“Affectionate and endlessly loving, Lena begins purring almost the moment she sees people,” NCRA said. “While Phantom healed, she stayed close, offering the quiet comfort only a bonded sibling can provide.”
Together, the pair is inseparable.
The rescue says Lena helps Phantom feel brave, while Phantom brings out Lena’s playful side. They sleep together, play together and reassure each other that they are safe.
Yet despite everything they have overcome, the pair continues to be overlooked.
Now back at Petco Commack, Phantom and Lena eagerly come out to play whenever visitors stop by, according to NCRA. When it is time to return to their habitat, they often cry to stay out a little longer.
“Still, no applications,” the rescue said. “No families asking to meet them. Just two young cats watching another summer pass by as they wait for a home of their own.”

Phantom and Lena do not need much, the rescue said. They need a family willing to keep them together, give Phantom patience, give Lena affection and give both of them the chance they have been waiting for.
They also get along with other cats, NCRA said.
Phantom and Lena are spayed and neutered, fully vaccinated, litter box trained, microchipped, and FeLV/FIV negative.
Those interested in meeting Phantom and Lena can visit the Northport Cat Rescue Association website and complete an adoption application. For more information, call 631-606-2631 or email info@northportcatrescue.org.
“Please share their story,” the rescue said. “Their family may not know they’re looking for them yet.”
