Asharoken Deputy Mayor Resigns

Joseph Tilleli cited time constraints as a reason for leaving.

Asharoken Deputy Mayor and Trustee Joseph Tilleli resigned from the Board in early September, just two months . Trustee Pam Pierce filled his position.

"I received a promotion at work and since I commute to NYC I 'm unable to devote the time necessary to the Village," he said last week via email.

Mayor Greg Letica appointed Asharoken resident Laura Burke to replace Tilleli on the board. She will serve out the rest of his two-year term.

Burke grew up in Asharoken and lived in Brooklyn for about 15 years where she worked in marketing for Foot Locker and Barnes & Noble. She previously served as an Asharoken trustee ten years ago.

"My father was a police commissioner and my mother was on the board of trustees and the zoning board, so we always talked about village business in my house as a family," she said.

Burke said the issues affecting Asharoken which are most personal to her are the environment, maintaining Asharoken's beaches and natural beauty, and maintaining a feeling of neighborliness in the community.
