We couldn't be more grateful to all the volunteers over the years who have helped beautify the 23-acre Jay Estate (wearing every color T-shirt from yellow to purple)!! From uncovering hidden flagstone paths, to raking leaves and planting annuals. We've participated in every I Love My Parks Day with Parks &amp; Trails NY and NY State Parks since 2012! Partner groups have included the Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Mount Vernon Youth Bureau, Yale Alumni, Con Edison, Rye Neck School, Mamaroneck School, Stanford Alumni, the Rye Garden Club, Rye Sustainability Committee and many more.&nbsp;

History Repeatn's Star Wars Day celebration returns to Northport Village, NY for a day full of Jedi-level fun on Saturday, May 2nd!
From insta-worthy moments, to a family-friendly scavenger hunt and a Star Wars-themed pub crawl for adults, this village-wide event offers a galaxy of fun for everyone while raising awareness and support for a great cause.

Indigo Goodson-Fields is a writer, poet, and birder based in Brooklyn. Her forthcoming book, entitled Essential Birding is an anthology about the importance of birding in the lives of Black birders across the U.S. and will be published by OR Books in fall 2026.

South Huntington Public Library

Water, Climate, and Environment: Policy at the Crossroads is the theme for a free, three-hour, multifaceted public event at the South Huntington Public Library (145 Pidgeon Hill Road, Huntington Station) on Wednesday, May 6. Extending from 5:30-8:30 p.m., it will feature short individual talks by knowledgeable speakers who will also engage in a panel discussion with audience participation. Co-presented by Democracy Forward Long Island and Adelphi University, local environmental organizations are also being invited to participate and share educational information.
Confirmed speakers include:
Steven Englebright, MS (Suffolk County Legislator, professor of geology at Stony Brook University, and former chairman of the New York State Assembly’s Committee on Environmental Conservation)
Ryan Wallace, Ph.D. (assistant professor of environmental studies and science at Adelphi University) 
Aaren Freeman, Ph.D. (professor in Adelphi University’s department of environmental studies and biology) 
Sarah Meyland, MS and JD (retired professor of environmental law at NYIT), who will both moderate and participate in the panel discussion. 
Topics to be discussed include climate change and the role of federal and local legislation; water-quality issues on Long Island, including current research on water quality in our bays and aquifers as well as possible solutions to water-related problems; and marine biology, including human-caused changes to coastal ecosystems, invasive species, and restoration efforts.

Northport High School

The Northport Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Music Director Eric Mahl, will present a concert of classical music on Friday, May 15, 2026 at 7:30 PM at Northport High School. The concert will feature pianist Daria Podorozhnova as soloist in the Piano Concerto No. 2 by Sergei Rachmaninoff.The program will also include Symphony No. 4 by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

Born in Rostov-on-Don, Russia, Daria Podorozhnova has gained international recognition through numerous competitions. Recent highlights include First Prize at the 2025 Chopin International Piano Competition in Hartford, CT and First Prize at the 2025 Ann &amp; Charles Eisemann Young Artist Competition in Dallas.She has performed widely across Russia and internationally, both as a recitalist and soloist.Daria began piano studies at age six at the Special Music School affiliated with the Rostov State Conservatory and is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s degree at Manhattan School of Music in New York. Her performance this evening is courtesy of her First Prize-winning performance in the biennial Young Artist Competition held by the Tuesday Morning Music Club of Douglaston, a local institution which was founded in 1921 and has presented chamber music concerts continuously since then.
