Cash for Guns: A Gun Buyback Event is Saturday
Find out how Northport residents can participate in the event, which takes place at the Dennison Building in Hauppauge.

Northport residents can get cash for guns at the gun buy-back event on Saturday at the Dennison Building in Hauppauge, from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
Guns must be be unloaded, and may be transported in a car, but the firearms must be in a plastic or paper bag or box, officials said. And participants may surrender as many firearms as they wish.
Participants will receive $25 for nonworking or antique firearms, $75 for rifles and shotguns, $100 for handguns and $150 for assault weapons. Payment will be made by debit card at the Dennison Building, after the unloaded gun is screened by police.

Licensed gun dealers and active or retired officers are not eligible for this program, officials said.
In 2011, nearly 33,000 Americans were victims of gun-related deaths, officials say. In addition, The Brady Campaign to prevent gun violence reports that an average of 268 people are shot every day in the United States. That’s 97,820 people per year.

The program is sponsored by the New York State Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman as part of his part of his statewide gun buyback program across New York State. Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and Suffolk County Police are co-sponsoring the event.
The Dennison Building is located at 100 Veterans Memorial Highway in Hauppauge.
