East Northport Fire Department Rescues Injured 10-Year-Old Bicyclist
The boy struck a tree while riding his bike Friday evening.
The East Northport Fire Department responded to assist an injured bicyclist who struck a tree on Friday at around 5:30 p.m. on the bike trails in Meadowlark Park off Middleville Road.
The bicyclist, a 10-year-old boy, was located about a mile into the woods by the ENFD paramedic. Firefighters used an off-the-road brush truck to reach the boy, who was carefully loaded into a stokes basket and taken to a waiting ambulance and evaluated by EMS personnel.
The boy was then transferred to a Suffolk Police helicopter that landed at the adjacent Northport VA Hospital, and airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital. About 25 East Northport volunteer firefighters and Emergency Medical personnel responded with two ambulances, a brush truck and paramedic unit, under the command of Chief Wayne Kaifler Jr., and Second Assistant Chief Dan Flanagan.
