From Aldi Parking Lot To Rescue, Kitten Still Waiting: Northport Kitten Of The Week
Rescued from beneath shopping carts, the affectionate kitten is now safe — but still waiting for someone to adopt her, the rescue says.

EAST NORTHPORT, NY — Aldi, a kitten born around June 2025, is Northport Cat Rescue Association’s Kitten of the Week — and her story began in an unlikely place.
If her name sounds familiar, it’s because it’s the same place many people shop each week.
“This is where her story began — outside a local Aldi grocery store,” the rescue said.

Aldi was found living beneath shopping carts, trying to survive.
“She was cold, hungry, and scared,” the rescue said. “Each day, she would cautiously emerge, weaving between wheels and hurried footsteps, quietly begging strangers for food.”

Some shoppers stopped to help.
“Some kind-hearted people fed her,” the rescue said. “Others, sadly, shooed her away.”
Concern for the small kitten quickly grew, prompting calls to the rescue.
“People were worried. They saw her trying to survive in a place no kitten should ever have to call home,” the organization said.
But bringing Aldi to safety wasn’t easy.
“Due to store policy, we weren’t allowed to place a trap near the carts during the day,” said volunteer Lora Wild. “So we waited. And hoped. And returned under the cover of night.”
In the end, Aldi didn’t resist.
“Hunger had made the decision for her,” Wild said. “She was ready to trust, to be safe, and ready to be loved.”
Once in foster care, Aldi needed time to adjust.
“For the first few days, she kept to herself, unsure of this new world,” the rescue said. “But slowly… something beautiful began to happen. She blossomed.”
Now, volunteers say her personality is beginning to shine.
“She’s the kind of kitty who would choose being held over anything else,” the rescue said. “A true Velcro cat, she wants nothing more than to be close — to curl into your arms, rest in your lap, and soak in every bit of affection she can get.”
Aldi is also just beginning to discover play.
“She’s learning how to be a kitten,” the rescue said. "Her silly side is finally shining through.”
Her green eyes, volunteers say, tell her story.
“They seem to hold everything she’s been through — and how much love she still has to give.”
Aldi is currently at Pet Supplies Plus in East Northport, where she is still adjusting to a busy environment.
“She’s often tucked beneath her blankets, trying to feel safe,” the rescue said. “But the moment a volunteer opens her door… the purring begins. It’s her quiet way of saying, ‘I’m trying. I just need someone to love me.’”
Despite her difficult start, volunteers say Aldi’s future is full of potential.
“She’s had a rough start to life,” the rescue said. “But her future is waiting — bright, hopeful, and full of the promise of a forever home.”
The rescue is encouraging the community to share her story.
“Somewhere out there, her person is waiting,” the organization said.
