EAST NORTHPORT, NY — The coronavirus pandemic could not stop East Northport Middle School students from expressing their creativity. The students continued to create their annual variety show this year, albeit with a virtual twist, according to the Northport-East Northport School District.

Practicing for weeks via Google Meet, the students created performances for their peers and community to enjoy safely from home.

The performances ranged from dancing and singing to acting and comedic sets. Students each performed individually, and then the videos were combined into a compilation with more than 30 minutes of showtime. The students even painted minimized sets, programmed lighting and sound, and supported each other in a group effort to make the show as similar to past years as possible.

"This year's Variety Show is a modified version in video form, but it is also a celebration of the joy that music, dance and comedy can bring us in difficult times," said Sandy Leahy, East Northport Middle School English teacher and the show’s director.
