Elwood 7th Graders Explore Sunken Meadow Marsh
The field trip was funded by a Connect-Kids-to-Parks grant. Kids learned about invasive species, ecosystem, shorebirds and more wildlife.

ELWOOD, NY — Seventh graders at Elwood Middle School recently participated in a marsh walk at Sunken Meadow State Park, funded by a Connect-Kids-to-Parks field trip grant, the Elwood School District announced.
The Connect Kids program was designed to connect students in New York state with nature and history.
As the students explored the marsh, they gained a better understanding of this Long Island ecosystem. Students examined invasive species such as the tree of heaven, Asian shore crab and green crab. Using binoculars, the students identified shore birds at the marsh such as dabblers, raptors and wading birds, as well as other wildlife.
