Elwood Soccer Star Named News 12 Long Island Scholar Athlete of the Week

Andrew Lule was recognized for his accomplishments on the soccer field and in the classroom.

An Elwood John Glenn High School star soccer player was recently named a News 12 Long Island/Bethpage Federal Union Scholar Athlete of the Week.

Andrew Lule, who has been on his school's varsity team since the ninth grade, scored 23 goals during his senior season. For his stellar season, Lule received the Suffolk Small School Player of the Year award and was selected to play on the All-State team.

Off the soccer field, Lule has an unweighted average of 91, scored an 1840 on the SAT and is a member of his school’s marching band.

Nominations for the News 12 Long Island’s Scholar Athlete are sent in by coaches all across Long Island. About 30 awards are given out over the academic year and each winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship check at the end of the program in June.

A segment featuring the weekly winner is taped at the student’s high school and airs on the News 12 Long Island broadcast. The feature can also be found online at news12.com in the sports & features sections.
