Elwood Star Athlete Signs National Letter of Intent
Damien Caffrey will be taking his athletic talents to the next level in the fall.
Elwood-John H. Glenn High School senior Damien Caffrey proudly signed his national letter of intent on Feb. 1 to play college football at LIU Post. Surrounded by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kenneth Bossert, Director of Athletics and Physical Education David Shanahan, administrators, coaches and family members, the special ceremony took place in the high school gymnasium.
During the ceremony, Mr. Shanahan praised Damien for gaining an athletic scholarship with LIU, a difficult achievement for many.
“Across the country, only 2 percent of high school students receive an athletic scholarship,” he said. “We take this time to recognize you for your efforts, your hard work and to wish you well.”

In addition to playing on the Elwood-John H. Glenn High School football team, Damien is also is a star wrestler. He recently won the 2017 Eastern State 220 lbs. Wrestling Championship…a title that his coach, T.J. Brocking, is very proud of.
“He has worked extremely hard to be a top athlete,” he said. “He is ranked number one in the state in two different weight levels.”
