Elwood Students Hold Discussion on Women's Rights
The students held a dialogue on whether a woman would be qualified to run for President of the United States.

Elwood Middle School students recently learned about the journey of women’s rights in the United States and discussed whether a woman would be qualified to run for President of the United States.
Members of the Knights of Good Club at Elwood Middle School hosted the Women’s Awareness Day program to kickstart a discussion about the history of women’s rights.
After watching three different videos, teachers led a classroom dialogue about the 19th amendment, women’s suffrage, stereotypes about women and women being qualified to run for president.

During lunch periods, members of the club organized a booth and displayed information and photos about women’s rights in history and around the world. While at the booth, students were asked to vote for a man vs. woman president. The voting results indicated that the majority of students would choose to vote for a woman president.
“The day evoked conversation between students as to the gender of a candidate for president versus their stand on the issues,” said Knights of Good adviser Todd Schwartz.
