Elwood UFSD, Suffolk Police to Discuss 'The Ugly Truth' of Drug Addiction

The Suffolk County Police Department along with the Elwood Union Free School District invites family members to “The Ugly Truth,” a heroin and prescription drug education and awareness program at Elwood Middle School on Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. The event is appropriate for those ages 12 and older and will guide the community on what they need to know about drug prevention and awareness.

Suffolk County Police Commissioner Timothy Sini will be in attendance and presentations will be given by the Suffolk County Police Department Community Relations Unit, Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office, Suffolk County Police Academy’s EMT Unit and the Suffolk County Department of Mental Hygiene.

Those in attendance will have the opportunity to participate in a NARCAN training session and take home a free kit.

In addition, Operation Medicine Cabinet will be collecting expired or unwanted prescription medications for safe disposal by the Suffolk County Police Department. Those that wish to take part are asked to remove pills from bottles or blister packaging and place in a ziplock type bag.

A door prize will be raffled off to all those who attend the event, courtesy of the Elwood Booster Club. Family members of students in kindergarten through fifth-grade will also have the opportunity to enter a special raffle for their child to have lunch with principals Elissa Millan and Dr. Denise Toscano. Community service hours will be awarded to middle school and high school students who have family members in attendance.
