Northport Middle School Ambassadors Club and students of NMS placed 6,500 flags (The Field of Flags) on the middle school lawn today, Flag Day. The Field of Flags is being displayed to honor individual lives lost in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

All proceeds benefit the Cpl Christopher G. Scherer Semper Fi Fund. This fund was established by the Scherer family in loving memory of their son and brother who was killed in Iraq in July of 2007. Chris was raised in East Northport and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps after graduating from Northport High School. The Semper Fi Fund supports active military, veterans and wounded warriors.
