Fifth Avenue Elementary Warms up on a 'Chili' Night!

Fifth Avenue Elementary School PTA Chili Cook-off and Football Challenge

On a chilly night in East Northport, Fifth Avenue families and friends came out to warm up by participating in the first ever Chili Cook-Off and Football Challenge event. On Friday, February 26th over 150+ people came out to vote for the best chili at Fifth Avenue and to test their skills against some Northport HS Varsity Football players.

The chili’s were arranged from mild to hot with one of the hottest ones taking first place. Prizes were given out for First, Second and Third place. There were also complimentary chips and salsa from Moe’s Southwest Grill in Commack and mini corn muffins from local bakery, Everbest.

Northport Youth Cheerleaders were there to encourage everyone testing their skills with the various football stations from the diving catch and the quarterback challenge to kicking and the obstacle course. They also gave out pom-poms to attendees and taught cheers to students.

The event was originally planned to be a celebration kick off for Super Bowl weekend, but had to be postponed after school was closed for it’s first snow day of the year. Due to overwhelming response, it was rescheduled and the games continued. It was a fun night of family, football and Northport pride sponsored by the Fifth Avenue Elementary School PTA.
