Firefighters Battle Northport Fire on Roof During Snowstorm
Firefighters went on the roof of the home in 30 mph winds to extinguish the fire Thursday.
The Northport Fire Department responded to a fire inside a home during the peak of the snowstorm on Thursday afternoon.
Firefighters responded to the Soundview Terrace home to find smoke in the house caused by a chimney fire at 3:06 p.m.
According to fire officials, the homeowners were evacuated while firefighters extinguished the fire and removed logs from the house. The firefighters then moved to the roof, in 30 mph winds off the Long Island Sound, to extinguish the fire inside the chimney.

A blizzard warning was issued for the area Thursday and brought heavy snowfall and strong gusts of wind.
The house was vented of the smoke and no injuries were reported.

The Northport Volunteer Fire Department thanked the residents for shoveling out their fire hydrants, allowing them to quickly attack the blaze.
