ICYMI: East Northport Family to Hold 11th Annual Halloween Bake Sale
Stop by Kalmia Street on Halloween for some fresh baked goodies. All proceeds go to the Northport Food Pantry.
Dylan Perles was just 7 years old when she decided she wanted to raise money for people in need.
The idea came to her when she was in the play “Annie” in community theater. “It was upsetting to me that I was playing a little girl who didn’t have any money,” Dylan said.
Her family set up bake sale outside their home on Halloween and raised $100 for the Northport Food Pantry.

Ten years later, Dylan, 17, and her sisters Zoe, 15, and Kyra, 10, have helped raise more than $6,000 for the food pantry.
This year is the bake sale’s 11-year anniversary and the sisters are working to make sure it’s their best year yet.

About the Halloween Bake Sale:
- Where: Kalmia Street (it’s a dead end and you can’t miss the house!)
- When: Saturday (Halloween) from 11 a.m. until supplies run out
- What kind of treats will be at the bake sale? There will be pies, pumpkin bread, corn bread, brownies, halloween cookies, cupcakes, muffins, halloween-shaped rice krispie treats, apple cider, hot chocolate, a “decorate your own cupcake” table and a popcorn machine and a cotton candy machine that were donated by a local business.
Some local residents have already put in their orders. Expect Kalmia Street to be wall-to-wall with people.
The sisters have held this bake sale every year since 2005, even during Hurricane Sandy when there was no electricity. Surprisingly, 2012 was one of their most popular years.
The Perles sisters spent the past weekend making signs with their friends to spread news of the bake sale around town. Soon, the girls, their mom, grandma and friends will start preparing to bake massive amounts of goodies.
“When I was in kindergarten, it was our first year and no one really knew about it,” Zoe said. “As the years, went on people started telling their friends about it and we started handing out flyers.”
The girls spend their Saturday walking around the neighborhood and handing out the event flyers they made.
Every year, they look to be more successful than the next. “We really hope this year will be our best year yet!” Kyra said.
